Sock weight yarn is great for fine-gauge knitting and crochet projects (like socks!), baby clothes, and any garment where you really want to see some fine detail.
The fine gauge of this weight of yarn will show off pattern details (like the leaves in these gloves, created simply by using knit and purl stitches in different combinations throughout the round), in a way that bulkier yarns cannot. The trade-off to this, of course, is that there can be thousands more stitches to knit in a garment made of sock or fingering weight yarn, than in a garment made of bulky yarn!
